Chevrolet Volt is a hybrid plug-in electric car produced by General Motors and it was also marked as the Holden Volt in Australia and New Zealand. In Great Britain the car was sold as Vauxhall Ampera with minor modifications and the rest of the Europe knows the car Opel Ampera. Chevrolet Volt 2011 started its sales in the US in 2010 mid-December and it spread to other international markets subsequently. The Volt and the Ampera models together have sold over 70, 000 units globally by January 2014 mid. Major market for the Volt is the US and up to December 2013 it has sold over 54,500 units, whereas the Opel/Vauxhall combine sold 8, 500 units in Europe. Volt is the highest selling electric car in the US and for Europe it is the Volt/Ampera family plug-in hybrid. In the US the Volt has been rated as the most fuel efficient gasoline car as on January 2014.
