This great looking mini SUV was launched by Daihatsu in 1997 and modified Daihatsu Charade engines were installed in it. However, these engines were 1.3 liter and kei car 660 cc unit, with constant four wheel drive (4WD). The interesting thing to note here is that it had a 5 speed manual and a 4 speed automatic transmission. Daihatsu paid special attention to keep the width of the car less than 150 mm to fulfill the car regulations.
Surprisingly the first generation of the Terios was made available as a 5 door estate and the smaller version was called as the Terios Kid. However, the Terios Kid was only released in Japan. Terios underwent a major facelift in 2000 when both the exterior and the interior of the car were changed a bit. The new version gained electric front windows, central locking, rear seat head restraints, alloy wheels, roof rails and a roof-mounted rear spoiler.
