Maserati’s Alfieri Concept with its V-8 making Glorious Noises
Driving a luxury Maserati Gran Turismo on the Nevada State Route 341 while on your way to Virginia City would allow you to intimately get close to the Ferrari source V-8’s aural glory. The 4.7 L unit of the GranTurismo to say it simply is the most glorious sound producer in the contemporary automobile world. It is all rumble with rich basso laced with tight-wind insinuation. In comparison the Yankee lumps and the German 8-cylinders sound coarse and unsophisticated. If you want to verify it there is a video of the Alfieri installed with a wonderful V-8 making gorgeous sound in Italy.
Photo 1: MASERATIInstalling the V-8 into the sexy looking Alfieri concept car must have been the obvious choice for Maserati but the move seems to be a bait-and-switch. The Alfieri which is slotted for production is to take on the like of Jaguar F type and Porsche 911 however it will only sport a V-6. The catch however is that the consumer won’t have the choice of upgrading to a V-8 like with the Jaguar F. So it is likely that the concept Maserati will remain a forbidden fruit out of reach for owners.
The good news is the V-6 for the Maserati though not an auditory delight but one cannot find fault in the way the Ghibli sedan sounds with the V-6. This said, the V-6 is not the 8-cylinder with exhaust combination you get from the GranTurismo MC. Let us see how the switch-and-bait works out to be!
