Sprint ST was launched in 1999 as a totally redesigned Sprint 900. A straight-3 engine 955cc was used in the Sprint ST which is similar to the Daytona and Speed Triple models. However, it offered far smoother power delivery and the early models delivered 72kW and the later models a 78kW. The model has remained unchanged since its induction and in 2002 it had an engine redesign with 88kW and lighter engine with 100Nm torque. The dry weight of the bike measured t 207kg. The Sprint ST was redesigned again in 2005 and sported 1,050cc engine with greater displacement and a new fuel injection. The wheel base was shortened with the new chassis; instrument panel was updated including the mpg and miles to empty displays, tucked under exhaust pipes, added LED lights for the tail redesigned headlamp and a series of contemporary updates.  The option features that were pre-2007 in the model became standard afterwards that included color matching panniers, improved windscreen and handlebar raisers.
