The Volkswagen Karman Ghia was a sports car manufactured and sold during 1955 to 1974 by Volkswagen. It was sold in different body types such as convertible, and a 2+2 coupe. The Karmann Ghia was the outcome of design by Luigi Segre from Carrozzeria Ghia of Italy, body work built by hand from Karmann, the German coach builder and the mechanics of the Beetle (Type 1). The vehicle was termed as Type 14 inside the Volkswagen. A variant of the car was introduced later in 1961, as the type 34 which was modeled on the Type 3 platform and featured angular bodywork. During its lifetime 445, 000 units were manufactured for the Karmann Ghia which also included the type 34. Between 1962 and 1975 Karmann Brazil built 41, 600 units for the local market in Latin America. The car was offered in 1200cc, 1500cc or 1600cc F4 and it was succeeded by Volkswagen Scirocco and Porsche 914.
