Volkswagen Touran was a MPV vehicle produced by Volkswagen and it was based on the fifth generation Golf Mk5. It was mainly sold in the Europe at selected markets. The vehicle was designed with the aim of filling the gap left below the Sharan large MPV in 2003. Touran was offered in the variants of 5 or 7-seaters. This vehicle can be termed as an extended version of the Golf Plus with the rear overhand measuring 200mm more accommodating the extra 2 seats. The front end of both vehicles was same in size. In regions like Japan the model is known as the Golf Touran. The name is the clubbing of two names, Tour and Sharan, the later the name of the bigger MPV from Volkswagen. In the Touran the electronic mechanical steering was introduced which was a first for Volkswagen in the class. This is the first vehicle in which the 2.0TDI engine of the Volkswagen was integrated.
