Yamaha FZR400 was imported into the US by Yamaha in 1988 and the bike was available in other countries previously. The bike combined features and attributes which were never witnessed in bikes marked in the US before. It was the first of its class to come in to US by import ever. Yamaha engineering crew offered a huge Deltabox frame to the FZR400. An incredibly strong head was mated to two box-beam frame welded together and thick aluminum plate was gusseted to it for fortifying rigidity. Geometry and general layout hugely reflected the technology found in the 500cc GP Yamaha machines which were overtaking all competition. The 400c Genesis engine allowed it to be pushed forward in the frame and the space behind was put to excellent use. The tank concealed under plastic tank cover can hold 4.8 gallon fuel which is massive. It hugely allowed the bike to maintain balance.
