Yamaha TDM850 had its primary target as the European market and the bike was produced with tires, engine and sitting posture, keeping in mind the terrains and roads of Europe in mind. Initially the bike did not perform well in terms of sales in USA, UK or Netherlands, while in the remainder of European countries it was a smash hit. The improved version, the TDM 900, which had a heavy reworking done on it, reinstated the lost interest of buyers and the model gained the same popularity in /Netherlands as well. Among the major improvements that TDM undergo after the initial release were an increased displacement power, which rose from 850 to 900 cc, completely redesigned bodywork, increased wheel base and reduced weight. As a part of technological improvements, options like ABS, digital clock, digital fuel meter were also available on choice. The motorcycle was also famous in the bike modification markets.
